Over the Halloween weekend last year, a shocking series of knife attacks took place in the UK. Anthony Williams, 33, went on a random stabbing spree across multiple locations over two days and now faces 14 counts of attempted murder. He admits to carrying out the attacks but denies intending to kill.
Case Overview:
Evening of Oct 31 (Peterborough): Stabbed 3 people in the street (including a 14-year-old boy).
Early hours of the next day (London DLR station): Stabbed a 17-year-old boy in the face and hand.
Saturday evening (LNER train bound for London): A frantic 5-minute stabbing spree, injuring 10 people. A 73-year-old man was attacked after falling to the ground, and one passenger suffered a stomach wound over 9cm deep.
Moments of Life and Death:
Facing an extremely brutal assailant, terrified passengers hid in toilets and storage cabinets until they were trapped at the end of the train with nowhere to run. In desperation, some grabbed frying pans and toasters to fight back; one passenger was cut while trying to wrestle the knife away and was viciously asked by the attacker, “Do you want to die?”; a train crew member used a frying pan to stop him and was stabbed multiple times.
The jury is currently determining the attacker’s true intent at the time of the attacks.
⚠️ Safety Note: In sudden violent situations on public transport, besides finding cover immediately and using nearby objects for defense, wearing a cut-resistant garment as an underlayer during your daily commute can effectively protect you from lacerations at critical moments, buy you precious time to escape, and prevent accidental injuries.
